On June 11, 2026, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced the suspension of all funding to the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA)—the backbone of Los Angeles’ homelessness prevention efforts.
On June 29, Waymaker and Norton Rose Fulbright filed suit on behalf of LAHSA against the Trump administration, seeking to prevent HUD from endangering more than $200 million in housing assistance and supportive services. Waymaker partners Keri Curtis Axel and Scott Malzahn, who led the filing, contend that HUD is violating the Constitution and overriding Congress in its attempt to dismantle Los Angeles’ homeless services network. Currently, more than 11,000 people across LA county are housed, sheltered, and/or served through this network. If federal funding is withdrawn, thousands of individuals and families will lose the services that helped them leave homelessness behind.
